hausu (1977)
still one of my favourite horror movies !!! these girls get EATEN ! one of the most creatively stylised, playful horror movies I've ever seen, 70s horror often has this really striking, unique vibe when it comes to set design/lighting/tone/costuming that is really expressive and works well in a movie like Hausu. the travel montage is probably my favourite scene (the various animations interspersed with Gorgeous recounting the history of her family and her aunt, these mournful scenes of lost love during war time and nuclear bombings overlaid with irreverent, naive commentary from all her friends)- theres a lot in the movie to pick apart even peering past the overwhelming spectactle of it all, but that scene really sticks in my mind.
